Millionaire irregularities reported in the payment of the Casino del Mar to Viña del Mar
According to the local press of Chile, a report by the Comptroller General of the Republic revealed failures in the audit of the Superintendence of Gambling Casinos (SCJ), which would have allowed Casino del Mar S.A. to make a payment lower than required

According to information published by BioBio Chile, the supervisory body would have established that the fee corresponding to August 2024 would not only have been paid late, but that the amount would have been more than 12 million pesos less than that required.

This error was due to the application of an incorrect value of the Development Unit (UF), "a discrepancy that the Superintendence failed to identify or correct in time." In addition, the Comptroller's Office suggested that the SCJ would have validated the payment as fulfilled "in a timely manner," refraining from applying a sanction.

The report also exposed "structural weaknesses in the internal control systems of the supervisory body," highlighting the absence of clear manuals or instructions.

These failures, according to the compatroller, "affect the ability to safeguard public resources both locally and nationally." For his part, Councilor José Tomás Bartolucci said that the City Council was completely unaware of the situation and stressed the need to review all the background of the operator's economic contributions.

In this same vein, Councilman Alejandro Aguilera announced that he will request an extraordinary meeting in the Finance Committee to address this problem urgently.

The bidding process of the Casino del Mar

Recently, the Resolution Council of the SCJ authorized the waiver of the operating permit presented by Enjoy for the Casino del Mar. This decision generated immediate concern in the municipality, the Regional Government and among the more than 600 workers of the establishment, due to the uncertainty of the future.

However, the SCJ is working on a new bidding process. In a recent meeting of the Council, where regional governor Rodrigo Mundaca participated, Mayor Macarena Ripamonti's proposal to establish a guaranteed minimum economic offer that borders on 670 thousand UF, with a floor of 605,000 UF was supported.

Mundaca also highlighted the priority of safeguarding jobs. The vote to define these economic bases is expected to take place during the first half of January 2026, while Enjoy continues to be in charge of the operation until 2028.
