Casino Landmark shuts doors as Macau’s satellite casino model comes to an end
Casino Landmark, the final remaining satellite casino in Macau, ceased operations at 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, marking the end of a three-year transition period and closing a chapter in the city’s gaming industry that had existed for decades.
Located inside the New Orient Landmark Hotel on the Macau peninsula, Casino Landmark was one of the most profitable satellite casinos in Macau and operated under SJM Holdings‘ gaming license.
The shutdown drew a crowd of gamblers, employees, and onlookers in the casino’s final moments. Many gathered to witness the closure, with some livestreaming the scene as the casino’s signage was covered with red cloth and notices were posted advising patrons on chip redemption arrangements.
The closure took effect as the government-mandated three-year grace period for satellite casinos expired on Wednesday (31st). Casino Landmark was the last such venue to remain in operation following regulatory reforms that reshaped Macau’s casino landscape.
SJM has previously said that all locally hired employees at Casino Landmark would continue to be employed by the group. According to the operator, staff will be reassigned to other SJM-run casinos to perform gaming-related roles, depending on operational needs.
