The measure responds to the General Strike ordered by the National Association of State Casino Officials (Anfuce).
Thus, the important casino, located on the banks of the Uruguay River and next to the Salto Hotel & Casino complex, will cease operations after Christmas and will join the claim promoted by the guild. Among the main reasons for the protest are what the union denounces as a "covert salary cut", "attacks on the administrative career" and disagreements linked to the regulation of online gambling, among other points.
Protest in Uruguay
At the end of last week, Anfuce declared himself in conflict and announced, through an official statement, the realization of a general strike from December 26.
According to the union, the claim includes the denunciation of a "covert salary cut," in addition to questions about gambling regulation, the "lack of dialogue" with the authorities and the adoption of "unilateral decisions."
One of the first establishments to adhere to the measure was the Salto Hotel & Casino, which confirmed the total closure of its game room for an indefinite period. The decision was communicated through its social networks with the following message: "Dear customers: due to the General Strike ordered by the National Association of State Casino Officials, the Casino de Salto room will remain closed from December 26 for an indefinite period."
Anfuce: "The State has to have a leading role"
In an interview with Radio Monte Carlo de Uruguay, Anfuce leader Cecilia Alegre spoke about the current situation that casinos in the country are going through. Thus, he stressed the role that the State should have in this context: "The State is working with a very large hermeticism with the workers. Especially with the theme of the online game project. For us it is essential that the State has its leading role because it has the advantage that it protects the citizen with the issue of problematic gambling."
And he added: "We consider that he has to continue with his leading role. We are not opposed to the online gambling project including private individuals, who already have an investment in the country. But what we are fighting for is for the State to continue to have a leading role."
