DraftKings’ new historical baseball game bridges betting and iGaming

As the 2026 Major League Baseball (MLB) season gets underway, DraftKings has created a new betting product using historical league statistics designed to feel more like iGaming.
The company’s DK Replay game is exclusively available in Oregon. The product is a bet-by-pitch game that uses historical plate appearances in MLB.
DraftKings chief product officer Corey Gottlieb said: “DK Replay offers a new experience for our customers, allowing them to tap into the excitement of pitch-by-pitch betting in a unique historical environment.

“With DK Replay, we’re able to offer an experience that will allow customers to enjoy their favorite sports no matter the time of year.”

Players of DK Replay can bet on historical plate appearances by making wagers on individual pitches based on a database of historical plate appearances in MLB games.

Players are given anonymised information regarding individual matchups between pitchers and hitters.

These matchups will be classified as bronze, silver, or gold based on historical statistics such as batting average, slugging percentage, earned run average, and strikeouts per nine innings.

Players must choose within a limited time frame whether an upcoming pitch will result in a ball, strike, or ball in play. Once this decision is made, the historical result of the pitch is shown to the player.

The gameplay continues pitch by pitch until the plate appearance ends or the user decides to stop.

The players and the original game scenario are revealed after each sequence, providing transparency in the usage of historical data. Users can then proceed to another randomised matchup and repeat the process.
Cross-over games to fill a void

The Oregon Lottery approved DK Replay, and it is available in the state via the latest version of DraftKings’ sportsbook app for customers 21 and over. DraftKings announced that it will look to expand DK Replay to other jurisdictions in due course.

DraftKings described DK Replay as providing continuous engagement regardless of the sports calendar. The format helps ensure betting activity is maintained during off-peak periods without relying on live sports.

The concept is not entirely new within the gambling sector. Historical betting models have already gained traction in other verticals, most notably through historical horse racing terminals at land-based betting venues.

Similar mechanics have also appeared in digital formats, including a product launched by Hard Rock Bet that allows wagering on archived NASCAR races.

DK Replay mirrors those models by blending real outcomes with randomised presentation, creating uncertainty while relying on verified past data.

This has helped these products navigate the regulatory landscape that sets them apart from traditional casino games.

The roll-out also points to a wider industry trend towards alternative betting formats that can be delivered independently of live schedules.

DraftKings has not provided a timeline for expansion but confirmed that additional state launches remain contingent on local approvals.
